Live

We
value the expression of musical excitement at Mosgo's.
Therefore we endeavor to have live music three nights
a week. We are going to offer a wide range of music
so if you want to play, contact The
Music Manager.
Types of
Gigs Booked
We have different kinds of gigs at Mosgo’s and
each has a different set of requirements, compensation,
process, etc.

Mid-day Gigs
Open Mic Night

Evening Gigs
Evening Gigs are currently being booked on Thursdays,
Fridays, and Saturdays.
Known conflicts:
Thursdays
are generally background Jazz Night.
Other weeknights are quiet nights without music booking.
Rare weeknight events may occur during summer or when
HSU is not in session.
Types of Music Booked (Evening Gigs)
NOTE: We are an all ages venue. So…we ask that
works be appropriate for all ages at all times; basically
keep the potty mouth at home. Our intention for music
is to provide a safe place for all members of our community.
Thanks for respecting that policy.

Process for
Getting Booked & Performing (Evening Gigs)
We try to do everything via email; music@mosgos.org
or through our myspace page, www.myspace.com/mosgos
Tell us how we can listen to your music.
We listen.
We email back some dates from which you can choose.
We assign dates based on your response, in first-come,
first-served order if it takes a week to get back, you
might lose the date you wanted).
We confirm the date on email. If we do not confirm,
you do not have the date.
We put the artist name, a link to the artist's web site
(if there is one), and a short (one line) description
of the artist on the web calendar. We do not put up
pictures on the calendar; that is what your web site
is for.
Promotions –
Our job: We post your event in four local papers, on
two radio stations, here at the shop and if you are
out of the area and get us posters we will get those
out as well. If you have a myspace page we put you in
our top friends as your gig draws near.
Your job: Tell your friends in the area. If you are
local get some posters out in the community.
When performing, say "hi" to the counter staff,
so they know who you are and so you can get drinks,
etc. Remember that the counter staff is all-powerful
so play nice.
The sound person will be there about ½ hour before
the gig to help set you up. These people come in on
their own time because they love music and want Westwood
to have a great venue. They will tell you what time
you need to end your set and make sure you have a tip
jar out.
Note: Sometimes we have more than one gig per night.
Often this is due to out of the area acts needing a
place to play. Please end at the time your sound person
tells you. This helps keep the night flowing well.
We are an all ages venue without a liquor license. That means no beer, wine, JD, jello shots, etc. in the house. Our music permit with the City of Arcata police department requires that no alcohol be in the shop, under the awnings, or out in the parking lot. We could lose our ability to have music if this is an issue. Therefore, please abide by this.
Repeat after
me: "the counter staff is all-powerful".
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Compensation
(Evening Gigs)
Free drinks for band members on performance night.
Artists are encouraged to sell CDs, buttons, stickers,
t-shirts, toy phasers, and anything else they can think
of, as well as asking for tips.
If you want
a cover charge please notify us at the time of booking.
You get to keep everything you get at the door and staff
will make an announcement that those in the house at
the time you begin should pay up as well. It is your
responsibility to have a door person to collect the
charge. Usually bands ask for about $3.00 - $5.00, some
ask for more, up to $10.00, but that is rare. Basicaly,
for out of town folks unless you are the Beatles a show
for tips would be best.
Tell your
friends you will be here.
